WHY STUDY A FOREIGN  LANGUAGE ?

Nowadays more and more people in our country have realized the importance of learning a foreign language and are working very hard at it. There are many reasons for learning a foreign language, and there is no doubt that having a good reason firmly in mind will enhance your chances for success. Most people need strong motivation to attack the complex task of mastering a foreign language. In general, people tent to study foreign languages for a combination of reasons that usually complement each other; a person may need to learn a foreign language in connection with work or study, but that people may also enjoy studying foreign languages for their own sake.

l        Professional. Sometimes, a person needs to learn a foreign language in connection with a job. Communicating in a foreign language is an integral part of the work of international business people, foreign service officers, interpreters, foreign language teachers, and many other professionals.

l        Educational. Frequently, a person needs to learn a foreign language in order to satisfy an educational requirement imposed by a school, college, or university; to use materials and resources available in another language; or to study in a foreign country.

l        Social. Many people want to learn a foreign language in order to communicate on a primarily social level with speakers of other languages, to get to know them, and to establish relationships with them. We all live in an increasingly different world in which our next-door neighbors, colleagues, and fellow students may be speakers of other languages. In addition, more and more people today travel outside their own countries and need to have linguistic skills in order to get their needs met.

l        Personal. People often want to learn a foreign language for personal enrichment, to satisfy their curiosity about a country and its culture, to find a fulfilling hobby, or to seek their roots.

The more reasons you have for studying a foreign language, the more motivated you will be! Motivation, in turn, will translate into willingness to go on with your language study over a longer period of time.
